As we all know, a great blow was delivered to the kratom community when the FDA announced that it was closing its scientific investigation into kratom after a months-long probe resulting from a kratom-based salmonella outbreak.

In an official statement on July 2^nd, the FDA’s commissioner Scott Gottlieb said, “It appears the salmonella problem with kratom uncovered earlier this year has probably been occurring for some time and is ongoing. We have closed our outbreak investigation, concluding that anyone consuming kratom may be placing themselves at a significant risk of being exposed to salmonella.

Gottlieb and Deputy Commissioner for Foods and Veterinary Medicine Stephen Ostroff went on to claim that kratom has no proven medical uses and discouraged the public from consuming kratom.

“Kratom is an inherently addictive product that can cause harm, which is reason enough not to consume it. Now, in addition to those risks, we can conclude that there may be a high proportion of kratom and kratom-containing products contaminated with salmonella. It’s another firm reminder of why people should avoid kratom.”

This reductionist attitude towards kratom is something that flies in the face of logic given the preponderance of US products that are regularly recalled due to salmonella.

Luckily, there are individuals that are far more pragmatic than Mr. Gottlieb. The folks at AKA (American Kratom Association) appeared at this year’s Champs Trade Show in Las Vegas, NV where they spoke with a number of the top kratom vendors about the importance of implementing GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices).

At the event, AKA Chairman Dave Herman stressed the importance of protecting consumers against tainted kratom products. In a rousing speech, Herman said that “these strict baseline recommendations for GMP Standards for the manufacturing and distribution of kratom products are essential in protecting the safety of consumers, and will send the clear message to the FDA and federal and state legislators that we are committed to removing adulterated or contaminated kratom products from the marketplace, and we will not allow impermissible health claims to be made by any credible kratom vendor.”

The AKA is working in cooperation with the FDA to seize and destroy any contaminated kratom shipments and are calling on kratom vendors to hold themselves to higher standards of quality control. So far, this seems to have worked as the more reputable kratom vendors online have taken to lab-testing their kratom powder for heavy metals, bacteria and more.

Self-regulation is vital to the future of the US-based kratom industry. As anyone even remotely familiar with old school libetarianism can tell you, autonomy is an integral part of the American experience. We’ve discussed the difference between Maeng Da and Red Bali in the past, but a friend of mine brought up an interesting point recently. Red veins and white veins vary dramatically from one another, thus necessitating a fair and balanced assessment between Red Bali and White Maeng Da.

As it has become a recent habit of mine to test out these kratom strains personally, I’ve decided to sample our own Red Bali against some fine White Maeng Da I picked up from Kraken Kratom. The results of this comparison may surprise those who think they know everything there is to know about Maeng Da.

Many people believe Maeng Da is the strongest kratom strain out there which is fair to assume since this variety is known for its high volume of alkaloids, but Red Bali is also extremely popular because of its potency and aroma.

Today, we’ll take a thorough look at where their effects differ and why one might be better than the other.

WHAT MAKES RED BALI SO POPULAR?

One of the many reasons why Red Bali has risen to the top of the heap in terms of bestselling kratom strains is its widespread accessibility. Red Bali is a prevalent strain that’s well-regarded for its analgesic properties and relaxing effects.

This readily available kratom powder has been known to induce a sense of calm and well-being that’s in keeping with kratom’s overall reputation as an Ayurvedic herb. Harvested from the large leaves of Indonesian kratom plants, Red Bali Kratom is renowned for its rapid growth as well as its array of purported benefits.

After about forty five minutes, I begin to peak as I notice myself grinning like an idiot. No joke! This one actually makes me smile. It’s one of the reasons I got into the kratom game in the first place because I wanted to share with the rest of the world what I’ve experienced with this amazing herb.

What I’ve noticed about Red Bali versus other Bali strains is that I don’t ever get queasy and I never fall asleep when I don’t intend to. That’s more than I can say for other, more sedating strains that can force a nap on you when you least expect it. It’s important to note here that I never take more than 4 grams at a time and only after I’ve acclimated to any respective strain.

As a longtime kratomite, I’ve grown accustomed to the threshold dose of 2 grams and I’ve graduated to 3-5 grams at a time. But I always caution my friends against burning that much kratom in one sitting when they’re not used to it.

WHAT’S SO SPECIAL ABOUT WHITE MAENG DA?

Most kratom enthusiasts I meet are married to Green Maeng Da, probably because it’s the most common Maeng Da on the market. But don’t get it twisted, there are other Maeng Da strains out there and White Maeng Da is my personal fave.

Why?

Because Maeng Da contains substantial amounts of Speciogynine, Speciociliatine and Paynantheine in addition to the much-coveted Mitragynine and 7-Hydroxymitragynine. Paynantheine is said to have stimulating effects while Speciogynine is a smooth muscle relaxant.

It is important to note here that the FDA does not consider kratom to be beneficial for medicinal use and have parted with many researchers’ findings regarding these active alkaloids. However, innumerable kratom users have attested to the effects induced by the kratom plant.

White Maeng Da’s purported effects may include any or all of the following:

• Pain relief
• Increased energy
• Heavy stimulation
• Relaxation
• Sharpened focus
• Insomnia relief

I should say up front that I am not a fan of Maeng Da, at least not to the extent that most people are. However, my assessment of White Maeng Da is unbiased as I have never tried the white vein Maeng Da before. Consider this me losing my Maeng Da virginity.

I decided to take just 3 grams of White Maeng Da since I’m new to it and I’ve gotta tell you, I was pleasantly surprised by the results. I felt almost immediately rejuvenated after slogging through my mid-morning duties.

The first hour was definitely stimulating and I got a lot of work done in a short amount of time. I would have to say that this strain is the nootropic strain, the one that you’d want if you’re looking for a cognitive boost.

With that said, I can’t recommend it too strongly since the second hour saw my eyelids getting heavy and I experienced a bit of the wobbles when rising from my office chair to go to the bathroom. As someone who grew up with drug addiction in my family, I’ve never appreciated the feeling of downers or depressants and the second hour after taking this strain made me feel a bit unsteady and drowsy.

I’d have to say that White Maeng Da is definitely the most powerful Maeng Da I’ve tried and wouldn’t be one I’d suggest as an option for anyone who wants to feel rested throughout their afternoon. On the other hand, I’ve heard a lot of chatter about people using it to treat insomnia and now I can understand why that makes sense.

BOTTOM LINE

Both Red Bali and White Maeng Da have their pros and cons, and each is similar in their potential for stimulation and relaxation. But if you’re not looking to end up on the nod, you may want to stick with Red Bali. Mild stimulation and calm will always beat the jitters and the wobz.

Last month, 10 participants in Skagit County drug court tested positive for Mitragyna speciosa (kratom). The Ayurvedic herb has long been considered a natural supplement by those who take it for chronic pain and other conditions, but the FDA has classified it as an opioid and are making moves to schedule it as a controlled substance.

As such, kratom is now considered to be a potentially dangerous drug by the powers-that-be and laboratories have begun adding kratom to the list of such substances on drug tests. In Skagit County, Washington, a drug court has been established that functions as an alternative to serving jail time.

The drug court is intended to rehabilitate those suffering from addiction who have drug charges filed against them. All participants in the program are expected to refrain from using any mind-altering substances while in the program. Those who do not comply are removed from that program.

On June 15^th, Phoenix Recovery Services, a contractor commissioned by the drug court, tested participants for kratom for the very first time. Three out of the 10 individuals who tested positive for kratom had no idea that kratom possessed mind-altering qualities.

One participant just though it was a dietary supplement while two others believed it to be an herbal tea. This is not as implausible as it might seem to some as many online kratom vendors market kratom as kratom tea. That’s because kratom has long been brewed as a tea, coming as it does from the coffee family of plants.

Nevertheless, the drug court is clear about the stipulations that participation in their program entails. All participants are expected to let their counselors know if they are taking any kind of supplements whatsoever.

As therapeutic court specialist Bev Carman put it, “We run our program on being honest. If they continue to lie, we don’t really have a client to work with.”

In other words, failure to disclose kratom use could land an addict back in jail. Much of the court’s consternation for kratom is the consequence of what happened after the aforementioned participants tested positive.

The subsequent withdrawal symptoms from daily consumption were intense, leading five of the ten people hospitalized. This is a problem that the kratom community has been facing for some time—weighing the potential medicinal benefits of kratom against the potential for tolerance, addiction and/or withdrawal.

Many kratom warriors have come out to defend kratom and urge people against daily dosage, suggesting that cycling doses is a smarter and safer way to use kratom medicinally. These individuals have recommended taking small doses (2-4 grams) every other day, often skipping kratom use altogether for three to five days.

In this way, some users say they are able to avoid tolerance and prevent withdrawal symptoms. Still, there is inconclusive scientific evidence to support these claims, which is why the FDA has closed its investigation into kratom and have encouraged the public to avoid kratom use.

For many of us who have studied kratom for years on end, it may seem absurd for anyone to charge kratom with being dangerous or addictive, but facts are facts. Kratom hospitalizations have occurred and, furthermore, many individuals have gotten sick from using adulterated kratom products.

It is always advisable to source kratom from a trusted vendor as there are many shady kratom companies online that sell tainted kratom product, product that is cut with synthetic chemicals. Earlier this year, we saw kratom products lead to a salmonella outbreak, an occurrence that ultimately led to the FDA’s public statement.

But those advocating for kratom to remain legal maintain that it is safe when taken responsibly and are doing all that they can to preserve consumer access to the analgesic.

For the time being, kratom is legal in most of the US and parts of Canada. Kratom is legal in Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida (in certain counties), Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia and Wyoming.

Legislation is pending in the state of Alabama, but three years ago, Talladega County issued a signature kratom ordinance which gave retail stores 24 hours to remove any and all products containing kratom. Those stores that did not comply had their kratom seized by authorities.

Kratom is illegal in Arkansas as it is scheduled as a controlled substance. In 2016, more than 100 pounds of powdered and liquid kratom were seized in the state.

Most legislation introduced across Florida failed to pass, although specific ordinances vary from county to county. It is always best to research the legality of kratom in your area prior to buying kratom online.

Some states treat kratom like they treat alcohol or tobacco. In Illinois, kratom is legal but consumers must be at least 18 years of age or older to purchase it.

Kratom is currently illegal in the state of Indiana. It made local news there back in May of this year when the mother of a murdered teen was arrested for using kratom mere miles from where it is legal in Kentucky.

Legislative efforts to make kratom illegal continue in Iowa while kratom continues to be a topic of confusion and debate in Tennessee. Earlier this year, the Tennessee Attorney General said that kratom is not an illegal substance in the state, but certain iterations of kratom have been banned there for years.

In Vermont, kratom has been regulated with the active alkaloid 7-Hydroxymitragynine being outlawed at this time. Kratom is also illegal in the state of Wisconsin where it is classified as a Schedule 1 controlled substance.

Motark began selling out all of their stock in December of 2017. At the time, the proprietor of Motarkbest listed “vacation” as the reason for his long-dwindling supply of kratom powders. Since then, his official sub-Reddit has been scrubbed clean.

WHAT HAVE THEY GOT?

In short, everything but the kitchen sink can be found at their online store. Whether you’re in the market for teas, spices, seasonings or handmade soaps. I’ve been very impressed with their unique concoctions like their Pink Elephant Blend and their Maplewood Bacon tea.

The usual suspects are present, such as Green Maeng Da and Red Maeng Da, but they’ve also got stuff like their Limited Harvest Gold Maeng Da and the Cherry Bomb Enhanced Blend. Blends are not always the greatest choice when shopping for kratom because it isn’t common to get two or more strains that conflict with each other, so for this reason, I’m on the fence when it comes to their proprietary stuff.

On the other hand, their Gold Maeng Da is some of the best I’ve sampled. It’s both euphoric and analgesic, quickly relieving back pain and fatigue. Those who want to get their hands on some would do well to order soon as Gold Maeng Da is a rare strain that involves an intricate drying process. Most vendors cannot keep Gold Maeng Da in stock for long.

Canopy’s Chimes Ginger Chews are a tasty fave that’s long-lasting and good for relieving the nausea often associated with kratom overdose. It’s a good thing to have on hand if you plan on burning kratom more than once daily and in excess of 5 grams.

One of my only problems with Canopy Botanicals is that a lot of their products are stuff that you can get at any neighborhood pharmacy or vitamin store, such as Chamomile or Earl Grey Tea.

That being said, the prices are very reasonable for all of these things and they do have a lot of stuff you won’t find at a local grocer or drugstore. You’d be hard-pressed to find a Duane Reade that stocks Himilayan Pink Sea Salt or Oolong Tea.

As I said before, their prices are very good, even conspicuously so. $3.50 is ridiculously low for 25 grams of kratom powder. I’ve warned our readers about cheap vendors in the past. The old maxim “you get what you pay for” remains true; you don’t get something for nothing in this life and if you do, chances are, something’s fishy about it.

Considering that their enhanced blend sells for just $8, one has to wonder if this is really quality kratom, am I right?

Well, I can’t speak for all of their strains, but after some research (the proverbial taste test, as it were), I’d have to say that most of their kratom teas are unremarkable. Their Red Maeng Da was weaker than weak, belying the sedating effects common of red vein kratom. In short, after burning 4 grams, I felt absolutely nothing.

Of course, this can come down to personal tolerance as well as other mitigating factors. As with any kratom strain, one must consider their body weight, mindset and other physiological factors when dosing. Everyone’s different when it comes to kratom, just as everyone is different when it comes to just about everything.

You know what I’m talking about. First it was bath salts then it was “Spice,” and, more recently, it’s been so-called kratom products that are anything but pure Mitragyna speciosa (kratom) powder.

A lot of buyers have been hoodwinked into purchasing Krypton Kratom because it’s readily available in these small paraphernalia shops and gas stations. The label says that it’s a highly potent kratom extract, but this is incorrect.

Krypton Kratom is not, in fact, an enhanced kratom tincture, it’s a tainted product that happens to contain Mitragynine, the active alkaloid responsible for kratom’s analgesic (pain relief) and euphoric effects.

So, what’s the problem?

Krypton Kratom is not actually kratom at all, rather it is a bastardization of what kratom is all about. Kratom powder comes from the leaves of the Mitragyna speciosa plant and is widely considered a folk medicine. Most kratom strains contain no less than 27 alkaloids, some of which are natural muscle relaxers, antioxidants, anti-inflammatories, antidiarrheals, anxiolytics and analgesics.

By comparison, most of the Krypton Kratom that has been lab tested has been found to contain only one alkaloid—Mitragynine. Even the Krypton Kratom samples that have been found to contain more than one of kratom’s alkaloids was also found to contain an inordinate amount of the prescription pain drug O-desmethyltramadol or, simply, tramadol.

THE DANGERS OF KRYPTON KRATOM

Tramadol is a controlled substance that carries some serious side effects including nervousness, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, stomach pain, sweating, anxiety, redness, swelling, constipation, headaches, hallucinations, agitation, accelerated heart rate, fever, loss of coordination, fainting, seizure, overactive reflexes and blistering (skin rash).

Where users have been vocal about how kratom has saved their lives, tramadol has ruined many people’s lives. Addiction and death are not uncommon occurrences with tramadol. There were 379 overdose deaths involving Tramadol in 2011 alone.

In Northern Ireland, a coroner called for tramadol to be made a Class A drug after the death of a west Belfast man in 2016. Kwik Kratom has been around for a number of years and have become a favorite vendor among many users, but not that much information is available about them on forums and the like. Since relaunching as Kwik Botanicals in 2016 in the wake of the kratom DEA scare, this vendor has drastically changed its website and product pages.

As consumers, it is often tough to figure out whether or not a vendor is on the level. There are a ton of shady kratom wholesalers in the United States and beyond. Some companies seem legit at first glance, but are found to be disreputable upon closer inspection.

Just look at Krypton Kratom, the brand that made waves in the community after it was discovered that their kratom product was cut with the dangerous prescription painkiller tramadol.

It’s not uncommon for shady vendors to set up dummy accounts on Reddit and try to post fake testimonials about how great their “quality kratom” is. But those of us who do our due diligence can usually suss them out and expose them for the bogus entities that they are.

Today, we’ll do a deep dive on Kwik Kratom so that you’ll know whether they are legit and if you should (or shouldn’t) purchase kratom powder from their site.

Founded in 2014, Kwik Kratom was around for just under two years when they changed their name to Kwik Botanicals and built a new website. This new site does not function like their old one.

One of the first things a kratom user looks for in a trusted kratom vendor is transparency. We want their mission statement, we want to know a bit about their personal story or company—how they got started, what made them want to go into the kratom business, where they’re located, etc.—and we want to know where they’re getting their kratom from.

Kwik Botanicals offers none of this information on their website, at least not to the general public. One does not see any pictures or descriptions of their kratom products when visiting their product page; the pages are quite literally blank save for their Matcha leaves and Yerba Mate.

Instead, curious parties must sign up for an account in order to view their “Mitra” powders. While it is somewhat understandable for a vendor to do this in an age where kratom is under such intense scrutiny, it also suggests possible foul play.

KWIK KRATOM PRODUCTS

Kwik Botanicals has not excelled at offering any mind-blowing variety of kratom products. Most of what you’ll find is just standard brand stuff like Green Malay and Maeng Da (Green, Red and White, respectively).

While their Green Malay is fairly potent, delivering a one-two punch of euphoria and anxiety relief, some of their other strains are far weaker. White Maeng Da is pretty underwhelming as Maeng Da strains go.

Their Indo Sumatra “Tea” doesn’t even look like kratom leaf, rather it looks more like the fake weed that used to be advertised in the back of High Times Magazine, the stuff that came all dried out and free of any THC content.

Far and away, their worst product IMO appears to be their Green Maeng Da whose effects seem to be non-existent. Those who are used to the stunning and profound effects of Green MD will be more than a little disappointed by this one.

Not surprisingly, it is a bestseller because of its reputation among kratom enthusiasts. Surprisingly, this so-called quality strain is anything but.

PRICES

Their teas start at $7.99 for 4 ounces which is suspiciously cheap for kratom leaf. This raises yet another red flag and points to their product as being low in quality. Again, they do not let the general public know where they source their kratom from which is a big no-no if you’re looking to inspire customer confidence.

WHAT ARE PEOPLE SAYING?

Over on I Love Kratom, a junior boarder posted about most of the issues we’ve covered here, writing, “[The kratom product menu] only becomes visible on menus once you create an account, and log in. It cannot be searched either. I don’t believe the pages are directly addressable via links either. Until logged, the pages will appear empty.”

This same user detailed the horrendous customer service experience they had with Kwik Kratom, saying, “I recently ordered a kilo of one product and received something else instead (labeled properly though). Emails were answered in a quick, and dismissing fashion. I was stuck with it, but offered 4oz. free with my next purchase; a token. They messed this up as well, giving me a 4 oz. product which I indicated in the original email that I did not want.

“Subsequent emails were read, and little care in the reply. But there is someone at Kwik (Jeremy) who is on top of complaints and issues. They just don’t do very much about it. Even to long term customers. Don’t expect much here.”

One Reddit user complained about their shipping, writing, “’Kwik’ kratom? What are your experiences with this vendor? So far my experience has not been ‘kwik.’ Unless 11 days and no kratom is ‘kwik.’”

Others have echoed the sentiments of the junior boarder on I Love Kratom’s forum, saying, “I’ve gotten several bad batches lately. It’s at the point of 50/50 bad now. I’ve tried everything to make sure it wasn’t just me.”

Of course, for every naysayer there are a fair number of proponents. Some satisfied customers have contradicted the experiences of those mentioned above, noting their “fast shipping” and great customer service.

An extensive review on Reddit talked about their excellent prices and customer support. Another Redditor said that they’d been ordering from Kwik Kratom for a year and found their Red Malay to be “consistently outstanding.”

This last poster claimed to suffer from severe chronic pain and muscle ache from Psoriatic Arthritis and fatigue. In their post, they say that Red Malay from Kwik Kratom has made it possible for them to spend 12 hours on their feet with no problems.

BOTTOM LINE

Kwik Kratom, aka Kwik Botanicals is a questionable vendor with a history of mislabeling products, failing to meet customer expectations and concealing their product information from the general public. Let’s talk about their kratom some more. Their Red Bali is brilliant; perfect for pain relief and equally energizing, this one is stronger than most red vein powders I’ve had the opportunity to review. That being said, it’s not one that I would share with friends, at least not if we were about to hunker down and watch something trippy like Enter the Void or 2001: A Space Odyssey.

For an appropriately euphoric experience, Herbal Salvation’s Maha Kali is an excellent choice as it makes for a lovely time and helps take the edge off for users who are accustomed to burning more stimulating strains early in the day.

Of all of their kratom strains, be it Green Indo, Green Malay, Red Sumatra or Gold Bali, the only one that stands out like a sore thumb is Yellow Vietnam. It’s no good for pain, it’s kind of a dull experience and it doesn’t really get the job done, as it were. The euphoric and energy-boosting qualities are quite low considering.

On the other hand, it may be a viable option for noobs who haven’t yet burned kratom extensively. One can expect mild stimulation and a bit of buzziness. Thankfully, this one, like their others, doesn’t lead to a case of the wobs, at least not in my personal case. As always, results may vary.

We’ve talked about this here before, but it bears mentioning again. The top kratom vendors give their customers a choice in how to pay. In other words, they do not restrict them to just one payment option.

Just because something seems legit doesn’t mean it is. With hundreds of kratom vendors operating in the US and beyond, there are bound to be some scammers out there peddling sub-par product. So, is Herbal RVA one of them?

Let’s find out! Today, we’ll do a deep dive on their website and online history to see who they are, what they’re all about and whether their botanicals are worthy of your time.

HERBAL RVA REVIEW

Many times on this blog we have talked about the need for transparency among vendors. We’ve also talked about how a slick web design doesn’t necessarily make for a great company. However, in the case of Herbal RVA, their site could certainly benefit from an upgrade.

Except nothing could be further from the truth; Herbal RVA have been around for some time and they’ve been consistently doing business with a number of customers, some satisfied and some not so much.

Having earned a 3 ½-star rating from We Kratom, Herbal RVA have connected with their audience on Reddit and established a reputation for selling quality kratom. People have touted them as an affordable source for premium kratom powder. Others have given them points for their fast shipping and good customer service.

We all roll our eyes when we hear the phrase “don’t judge a book by its cover” because we grew up on it. It’s like nails on a chalkboard at this point. But cliches are cliches for a reason and that phrase holds true when it comes to Herbal RVA.

Although their site is threadbare and there isn’t much up front to recommend them, it turns out that they are actually a reputable company with positive feedback from consumers and dedicated customer support. When we reached out via their phone number to find out about their products, the owner answered at once, offering prompt service and detailed information.

As he explained to me, users must utilize their search bar in order to search for the word “speciosa.” Once you’ve typed in the word and clicked search, you are taken to a page that offers a full line of speciosa powders.

Herbal RVA stocks no fewer than 22 unique kratom strains. These include the exotic Red Zarena and Green Zarena as well as Ketapang and Royal Bentuangie. Their White Bali is some of the purest and strongest Bali I’ve come across, delivering a smooth sense of sedation along with relaxing and analgesic qualities.

Royal Bentuangie is equally soothing, possessing a subtle ability to sharpen focus while calming one’s nerves. The third strain I sampled was their Green Vietnam, a strain that offers a clean energy boost and some powerful anti-inflammatory properties.

While Herbal RVA loses points for their amateurish web design, they earn points for allowing their customers to order kratom securely and discreetly. All things considered, this vendor is a legit family-run operation that deserves a fair shake by the kratom community.

Please pardon the clickbaity title, but this is a question I’ve been asked by far too many people, so I figured we should clear this thing up once and for all. While kratom is currently legal in many US states, it still carries with it a pretty harsh stigma.

With the FDA coming down hard on the Mitragyna speicosa (kratom) plant and its active alkaloids, it’s no wonder that you haven’t come across kratom in your neighborhood Duane Reade. But maybe you’ve been wondering whether you can legally purchase it in a local Walgreens, GNC, Walmart or CVS.

The answer is technically yes (depending on where you live), but really no.

While kratom has yet to be scheduled as a controlled substance by the FDA, legislative efforts are being made to do so. Several parties have gone above and beyond to demonize the plant, making for a sticky situation for the kratom enthusiast.

If you’re used to buying kratom at a smoke shop, you shouldn’t be surprised if such shops stop carrying it. On August 14^th, the American Kratom Association released detailed peer-reviewed documentation that shows the lengths to which the FDA is willing to go to manipulate the DEA into scheduling kratom as a dangerous drug.

In said documentation concerning the deaths of 44 individuals, the AKA found that the FDA had made a staggering number of errors and omissions that appear, at least to them, to be deliberately aimed at persuading the DEA to make kratom a controlled substance.

AKA scientists and attorneys claim, “The FDA has also misled the DEA, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), and the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) with incomplete, inaccurate, extrapolated, and distorted information on adverse events and deaths allegedly associated with the use of kratom to encourage unwarranted legislative and regulatory restrictions on kratom at the federal, state, and local government levels.”

In their white paper, the AKA put forth evidence of duplicated case reports, false autopsy and toxicology reports, and redacted statements by kratom experts. All of this points toward an intentional conspiracy to criminalize kratom and kratom use.

If the FDA has its druthers, you won’t be getting kratom at Kmart or Rite Aid any time soon. Hell, you won’t be able to get it at a local head shop, much less a superstore.

The good news is, organizations like AKA and the Botanical Education Alliance are working tirelessly with lobbyists and legislators to keep kratom legal where it is currently lawful to buy and sell it.

With that in mind, let’s review where you can still get your hands on kratom powder.

KRATOM LEGALITY IN THE UNITED STATES

Unfortunately, kratom has been outlawed in certain states and municipalities. For example, kratom is legal in the state of Florida, but legislation has been passed to prohibit users from purchasing or possessing it in Sarasota County.

This vendor’s product has been called “the brand of kratom connoisseurs” by one enthusiastic wholesaler, but there is scant information available about them in consumer forums and the like. In recent years, the Kannibal Kratom brand has become a bestseller at head shops and smoke shops across America.

Wholesalers regularly stock Kannibal Kratom’s Maeng Da and Bali strains and some have sold out within hours, but little has been said about their kratom powder. For whatever reason, the kratom community has been curiously mum about their experience with this company.

Today, we’re gonna change all that by doing a deep dive on their website and a review of what people have been saying about this vendor.

KANNIBAL KRATOM REVIEW

Unlike other vendors in the space, Kannibal Kratom have not been forthcoming about the origins of their company. Where some put forth a mission statement or share the story behind their humble beginnings, this vendor does not give their visitors much to go on.

Their About page is less a Get To Know Us thing and more a breakdown of what kratom is and where it comes from. All they really say about their operation is that they are supposedly a team of kratom experts with decades of experience in the kratom business.

If this is true, you’d never know it since Kannibal Kratom itself has only been around for a few short years. The site was copyrighted in 2016 and no location for a parent company is available on their homepage or sub-pages.

Their logo says that they are based out of Austin, TX and that much seems to be true as the Kannibal Kratom name was trademarked on January 21^st of 2016 by Daniel Cleland of Austin, TX.

It is not uncommon for kratom companies to change their names or merge with other kratom sites, but there is no evidence to suggest that the company once went by another name or anything like that.

If all of that wasn’t bizarre enough, their disclaimer page says that their product is made with love (a heart emoji if we’re being technical about it) in the US. Everyone knows that kratom is sourced from Southeast Asia and, in fact, the site even claims that they get their product from the jungles of Borneo.

This one left me scratching my head.

KANNIBAL KRATOM PRODUCTS

This is one area that raises some red flags for this kratom fan. Vendor only offers two different kratom strains at the moment—Bali and Maeng Da, respectively. Their kratom capsules come in packages of 14, 42 or 70 (odd numbers over all).

More alarmingly, they do not appear to offer the wealth of kratom powder options typical of most of the top kratom vendors. A lot of wholesalers provide bulk kratom powder, such as 1 kilo or more. Kannibal Kratom only offers 30 grams or 60 grams.

What’s worse, each kratom capsule contains only 0.6 grams of raw kratom powder which ain’t a whole helluva lot when one considers that the average user will take 2-6 grams per dose.

PRICING

This is another bone of contention for me; I value transparency over all else when it comes to dealing with kratom vendors. In the case of Kannibal Kratom, not only do they offer no assurances of service, money back guarantee or commitment to excellence but they don’t even list their kratom prices on their site.

We don’t even get a proper product page! All you get is a picture of their two strains directly on the homepage beside a form that one can fill out in order to receive more information about placing an order with the company.

This is seriously the most threadbare site I’ve seen in quite some time and that’s saying something because we’ve been vocal on this blog about the more amateurish or minimalist designs of lesser vendors. I have to say that this one takes the cake.

This one’s another head scratcher—the disclaimer page says that their product is distributed by UB, Salt Lake City, UT. The only UB we could find listed in Salt Lake City is UB Pharmaceuticals, LLC, a company that definitely DOES NOT offer kratom products of any kind.

WHAT ARE PEOPLE SAYING?

It’s all well and good for a vendor to do business on the down low, but it’s another for customers to complain about their products with no resolution. Most reputable vendors are plugged into social media and carefully follow the feedback offered by consumers.

If you spend enough time on kratom-related sub-reddits, you’ll come across countless posts about bad experiences with a kratom product where the vendor in question promptly responds to the user’s post, offering a refund on a weak batch or a replacement of the product. Some even throw in samples of other strains so that the user can get a more well-rounded idea of what they have to offer.

Kannibal Kratom has not established any kind of presence on such platforms and do not appear to reach out to customers who are less than satisfied with their kratom.

So, what are people saying about this vendor?

One user wrote about how their Maeng Da is a mix or red vein and white vein. In his post, he says, “I wasn’t impressed.” Ironically, another person responded to his comment, saying that Maeng Da was too strong for him.

Of course, user experiences vary widely and one Reddit user said that their kratom “worked like a dream.”

Aside from those comments and a few responses, there is very little in the way of public comment on this vendor. They are not listed among trusted vendors on any kratom-related websites and no well-regarded sources have reviewed them in the past.

It is usually a bad sign for a company to have such an utter lack of consumer reputation.

BOTTOM LINE

While user experiences differ from person to person, the overwhelming evidence points to Kannibal Kratom being a less than ideal choice for most kratom users, particularly the more seasoned user who is used to premium kratom from facilities that lab-test their product.
